What are GLP-1s?
GLP-1s are medications that can your lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. There are many different types of GLP-1s. Ask your healthcare provider if they should be part of your treatment plan to help manage chronic weight loss or Type 2 diabetes.
GLP-1s (also known as GLP-1 agonists) are a group of medications designed to help manage blood sugar (glucose) levels in people with Type 2 diabetes and help treat chronic weight issues.
GLP-1s are commonly injectable medications, but oral pills are also now available. This means you inject a liquid medication with a needle and syringe in the fatty tissue just under your skin (also known as subcutaneous injection). The parts of your body you can give the injections include your stomach, outer thighs, upper buttocks, and the backs of your arms.
GLP-1s cannot treat Type 2 diabetes or obesity alone. Effectively managing these conditions requires other treatment strategies, such as lifestyle and dietary changes.
